Devlog #6 - The Ragdoll


Hi guys, I wanted to write this devlog more earlier like the previous ones, but because some things I needed to attend before I had to delay it until today, but next devlog will be at the same period than previous devlogs. But anyways, let’s talk about what new things were worked and are being worked!!

Active Ragdoll working in VR

First of all, I can finally say than the Active Ragdoll system is working in VR!! For luck it was not really hard to implement and worked seamlessly with the current VR setup I had!! As for now you can interact with objects pushing them and also colliding with them with each part of your body provoking a different reaction!! In the future with more VR mechanics being implemented you will be able to interact and react to objects of different things, so stay tuned for seeing it!!

Ragdoll improvements

Second of all, in parallel of working on my game I’m improving the Active Ragdoll system specifically the ragdoll part adding new features mainly to improve the experience of using it!! One of them is than now the Ragdoll system can detect a collision of one of the bones and save the collision among the bone name for future use!! Also I improved a bit the joints limits as before they were making some bones act weirdly, so now it should be a bit more natural!!

And finally, I’m working also on a new system for the Ragdoll than will allow to the Ragdoll to be more reactive!! This system controls the Ragdoll and the way it reacts to different situations, for example, when being in a slope this system will make sure than the Ragdoll is in the correct position and acts correctly depending the slope curve!! Also this system manages the gravity and the collision of the entirety of the Ragdoll managing depending the situation how the Ragdoll will react!!

Future plans

As always, we will check the future plans!! As past months there were not much progress we will check the plans than we put since May as now it were progress on some of them!! So after explaining about it, let’s check them out!!

  • About the property change I talked in April where all my projects will be under a studio name instead of being associated to me I have been investigating on how to do it without affecting too much the actual structure, so it will take more time than expected to do it
  • About the implementation of all my game systems into the VR system this objective is almost complete thanks to the successful implementation of the Active Ragdoll system!! Still there are some things to check but all seems working well!!
  • About making a prototype scene with the character in both VR and flat the VR part is half done because some issues than I found, but now is progressing pretty well!! And when the VR part is finished, I will start working on the flat part too!!
